Following Week 5, the San Francisco 49ers have managed to pull a bit more cushion between themselves and their NFC West division rivals. With key wins and surprising losses across the division, here’s how the landscape looks after Week 5.

    Overview of Standings

    • San Francisco 49ers: 4-1 overall, undefeated in division play
    • Los Angeles Rams: 3-2
    • Seattle Seahawks: 3-2
    • Arizona Cardinals: 2-3

The Niners sit alone atop the NFC West with a perfect 3-0 mark in divisional games. Meanwhile, the Rams and Seahawks find themselves just behind San Francisco, and Arizona, with a losing record for now.

    Team-by-Team Breakdown

    49ers:

The 49ers’ depth, discipline, and ability to win close games have become trademarks through five weeks. Even without multiple starters, they’ve found ways to close out tight contests, which is exactly what you would expect from a division leader. Their 3–0 divisional slate gives them vital tiebreaker advantage if things get tight later on. Mac Jones has shown he can get the job done at the helm of the San Francisco team.

    Rams:

Los Angeles came in with ambitions of keeping pace, but their upset loss to the 49ers sets them back. A 3-2 record is still respectable, but they’ll need to capitalize on every remaining home game and perform in division matchups to keep pace. Losses like this become harder to recover from as the schedule grind continues.

    Seahawks:

Seattle has shown flashes of promise, but ultimately haven't been consistent. Their 3-2 record keeps them relevant, but to keep their NFC West hopes alive, they’ll have to win and avoid losses in this division. Their upcoming slate will test both their offense and defense in matchups that could define their season. They play division rivals, Rams and Cardinals, back-to-back in mid November, they need to capitalize on that two weeks in a row.

    Cardinals:

Arizona’s 2-3 start, coupled with a negative division record, puts them in a difficult spot. They’ve already lost ground and are running out of room for error. To get back into the mix, they need to win this weekend against the Indianapolis Colts, and hope they can get a win against the 49ers the next time around. They need to start to show consistency on both sides of the ball.

The NFC West is far from decided, but after five weeks, it’s San Francisco's top spot to lose. As division games loom and roster attrition takes its toll, the teams behind them will have to fight for wins and relevance in this 2025 season.
