Unleash your fantasy stars like McCaffrey and Williams. Avoid defenses; watch for unexpected breakouts in this NFC West clash.

The NFC West showdown between the Rams and 49ers is a fantasy matchup loaded with storylines. From star running backs to breakout rookies and a quarterback finding his stride, both teams bring plenty of intrigue heading into this week’s game. Here’s what fantasy managers need to know before kickoff.

    Must-Start Players

    Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers

It’s obvious, but it still needs to be said McCaffrey remains a weekly must start in all formats. The Rams have been inconsistent against the run, and McCaffrey’s dual threat usage keeps his floor sky high. Expect another heavy workload as San Francisco looks to control tempo and wear down Los Angeles’ front.

    Kyren Williams, RB, Rams

Williams’ pass catching ability makes him game-script proof, and with the 49ers’ defense dealing with injuries, Williams could find success both on the ground and through the air. Pencil him in as an RB2 with RB1 upside.

    Solid Starts

    Mac Jones, QB, 49ers

Jones has found a groove. He is playing efficient, turnover-free football while spreading the ball to multiple weapons. The Rams’ young secondary can be exploited if Jones gets time to throw. He’s a sneaky QB2 streaming option in superflex leagues, especially if San Francisco leans on short passes to complement the run game.

    George Kittle, TE, 49ers

Kittle could be in line for a solid day, particularly in the red zone. His volume may fluctuate week to week, but his big play ability and chemistry with Jones give him top five TE upside whenever he’s on the field.

    Puka Nacua, WR, Rams

Nacua is playing through a rib injury, but his toughness and target share keep him fantasy relevant. He’s been Matthew Stafford’s go-to option all season, especially on third down. Expect him to be active, though his ceiling might be capped slightly if he’s not at full strength.

    Risky Plays

    49ers D/ST

Normally a top fantasy defense, the Niners are a bit banged up, and Stafford is capable of exploiting mismatches if given time. Still startable, but don’t be shocked if they allow a few more points than usual.

    Sleeper to Watch

    Dee Winters, LB, 49ers

For IDP (Individual Defensive Player) leagues, Winters is worth keeping an eye on. He’s seeing more and more snaps each week and could rack up tackles if the Rams stick with their short passing and run heavy approach.

    Fantasy Outlook

This matchup has lots of steady fantasy production but maybe not a ton of fireworks. McCaffrey and Williams should headline the scoring, while Kittle and Nacua offer strong PPR value. Expect a physical game with plenty of red zone opportunities and a few unexpected shining stars in deeper leagues.
