Oklahoma Football's 2027 Recruiting Class is the No. 1 group in the country, and Venables isn't slowing down with more to come

The 2027 Oklahoma Football recruiting class is shaping up to be an historic group. Nearly every major recruiting service ranks the Sooners as having the No. 1 class for 2027 so far.

So far, the Sooners’ 2007 class include one five star, three four stars, and one three star recruit, totaling five verbal commitments. According to Rivals, Oklahoma scores a 94.304 rating with this class, which is nearly three points higher than the next team, Alabama (91.583).

When you break down this class, it is very evident that head coach Brent Venables has done a really good job of defending their home turf, with some high-quality talent within the state of Oklahoma.

The Sooners have two commits in their own backyard. They include five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett out of Ft. Gibson, as well as four-star offensive tackle Kaeden Penny from Bixby.

In the golden state of California, Venables was able to haul in four-star athlete Demare Dezeurn of Pacific Palisade. The most recent commitment for the Sooners is a fellow four-star in cornerback Mikhail McCreary of Johnson High School in San Antonio, Texas.

McCreary isn’t the only verbal commit from the lone star state. Three-star offensive tackle Luke Wilson from Southlake Carroll was the first player from the 2027 group to declare his intentions of coming to Norman.

Much has been made about Oklahoma’s tough schedule in the SEC. Since joining the league, they have been able to host recruits for more marquee home matchups, and it is already paying off. In September, the Sooners added four total commitments to their 2027 class. All of them were in Norman for Oklahoma’s 24-13 win over Michigan on September 6.

A couple of weeks later on September 20, two top in-state recruits, Cooper Hackett and Kaeden Penny, both offensive linemen, were back at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for the Sooners’ 24-17 win over Auburn. Within a week of the win over Auburn, both Hackett and Penny announced their commitments to Oklahoma within minutes of each other.

With Oklahoma facing No. 8 Ole Miss on Saturday, followed by No. 15 Missouri on November 22, as well as No. 20 LSU on November 29, the Sooners will have three more chances to host top recruits in home games involving top 25 matchups.

The Sooners’ work on the 2027 class is just beginning, and more players will be visiting in the coming weeks ahead for Oklahoma’s high-quality games. For Venables, the next step in this recruiting class could be finding a quarterback.

Dane Weber, a four-star quarterback prospect from Chaparral High School in Temecula, California, announced on X that he will visit Oklahoma for the Sooners' second-to-last regular-season game against Missouri on November 22. According to the 247Sports Composite, Weber ranks as the No. 26 quarterback in the Class of 2027. Oklahoma has not offered Weber yet, but there appears to be mutual interest.

Venables is defending the state, raiding California and Texas, and turning SEC home dates into signing-day previews. The 2027 class is No. 1—and still wide open.
