After Oklahoma’s 34-26 loss on Saturday to Ole Miss, the Sooners took a steep fall in all of the major polls and rankings.
In the AP Poll, the Sooners dropped five spots from the week prior, down to 18. To make matters worse, they aren’t even the highest-ranked two-loss team in the SEC. That title belongs to their next opponent, Tennessee. The Volunteers moved up three spots to 14, after a dominating 56-34 road win over Kentucky.
The Coaches Poll is where Oklahoma had its hardest fall, dropping seven spots to 18, the same ranking that they have in the AP Poll. Just like the AP Poll, the Volunteers are the only two-loss SEC team ahead of Oklahoma.
It is worth noting that Texas is behind Oklahoma in both the AP and Coaches Polls, despite defeating the Sooners 23-6 on October 11, at a neutral site. Texas is currently in the 20 spot of the AP Poll, and the 19 position in the Coaches Poll. Both teams have the same record at 6-2.
ESPN’s College Football Power Index also had the Sooners at 18, the same position as the AP and Coaches Polls. At 18, Oklahoma had dropped four spots from the previous week. However, in ESPN’s FPI, the Sooners find themselves behind not one, but two different two-loss SEC teams with Texas at 7, and Tennessee at 13.
Oklahoma’s remaining schedule got somewhat easier. No longer is every team left that they have to play, ranked in the AP Poll. LSU, who the Sooners will face on November 29, fell out of the rankings after suffering a 49-25 loss to Texas A&M at home on Saturday. It was LSU’s third loss of the year, with many calling for Brian Kelly’s job.
Besides Tennessee and LSU, the other remaining opponents on the Sooners’ schedule include No. 4 Alabama. Oklahoma’s matchup with the Crimson Tide will take place on November 15 from Tuscaloosa.
They’ll follow that up the next week facing the No. 19 Missouri Tigers at home on November 22. Much like Oklahoma, the Tigers have lost two of their last three games, with losses against Alabama and Vanderbilt.
The Sooners’ ranking at 18 in the AP Poll puts them right back in position of where they started the season, after reaching as high as the No. 5 spot on Week 6.
In the Coaches Poll, Oklahoma began the season unranked, and moved up to the No. 24 spot after Week 1. Their position at 18 this week is the lowest they have had in the Coaches Poll since Week 1.
