On this week’s edition of The Jones Report, Sooners Roundtable editor Tyler Jones and OkState Roundtable editor Thomas Bridges break down the top headlines in the Big 12, SEC and more.
The Oklahoma Sooners begin a tough stretch to end the season, and it all starts with Ole Miss this Saturday. Jones says he believes that Oklahoma should be able to handle business this week, and specifically likes how the Sooners matchup on defense, led by R Mason Thomas.

He also said that he believes that the Sooners have a significant defensive advantage on the Rebels, which could allow quarterback John Mateer and the Oklahoma offense to gain extra possessions. Jones also pointed out that the Sooners need to continue to build off of the run game’s strong showing against South Carolina, where Tory Blaylock rushed for 101 yards, along with a touchdown score.
While no one is expecting Oklahoma State to defeat Texas Tech this week, the Cowboys do find themselves playing for pride. With Oklahoma’s departure to the SEC last year, Bridges believes that the battle between the tortillas, and cheese fries is now Oklahoma State’s biggest rival in the new-look Big 12. Bridges goes on to add that this game is a much-bigger deal for the Cowboys, than their annual game against Tulsa.
The Cowboys will have their work cut out for them, as Texas Tech is looking to bounce back after their first loss of the season last week at Arizona State. For the second-straight game, Behren Morton is out, and will not start at quarterback for the Red Raiders, with Will Hammond in his place.
Other top stories in the SEC this week include Florida moving on from head coach Billy Napier. Jones and Bridges believe that the Florida job isn’t that great, because of the lack of resources, but both said that they will have a quality talent pool of candidates to choose from to replace Napier.
Meanwhile in the Big 12, BYU delivered a statement-win in the Holy War last week over Utah. The Cougars are the only remaining unbeaten in the conference, but they will face their toughest test yet next week against Texas Tech, in what could be a Big 12 Championship Game preview. Jones and Bridges explain why they are all-in on BYU’s chances to make the College Football Playoff.
It isn’t just about the Big 12 and SEC either on The Jones Report. The guys also share their thoughts on the NBA FBI betting investigation, Rashee Rice’s return to the Kansas City Chiefs, and more as 105.3 The Fan Dallas host Jake Riepma joins the show.
