After the Browns lost to the Jets in Week 10, WR Jerry Jeudy issued a strong statement on QB Dillon Gabriel.
Jeudy said Gabriel is getting better and better, which may be a controversial statement since many Browns fans want Gabriel benched for Shedeur Sanders.
"I think Dillon's confidence is growing each game," Jeudy said. "Each game he's getting better and better. All a quarterback needs is opportunity and consistency. So, him being out there and getting more reps builds his confidence. I see him growing each week. The more we work together the more chemistry we have."
Gabriel went 17-32 against the Jets. He threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns and was sacked six times.
"I think when we're at our best, it's efficient and we're executing at a high level," Gabriel said. "That's when you can sustain drives and third downs, making big time plays, explosives here and there. But that's why I keep going back to you got to execute in crucial moments to play winning football, and we didn't, but want to continue to get better at that, because we've got to."
On the season, Gabriel has thrown for 869 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He's completing only 58.6% of his passes.
The Browns are 1-4 with Gabriel under center. After Cleveland lost to New York, reporters asked Kevin Stefanski if Gabriel or Sanders would start at quarterback in Week 11 against the Ravens.
Stefanski said he's sticking with Gabriel.
"We're gonna stick with Dillon," Stefanski said. "Obviously, this is a young player, you're always trying to get one game better and those types of things. We have to play better as an offense, we have to coach better, all of the above."
The Browns dropped to 2-7 after losing to the Jets. Gabriel told reporters postgame that he must play better moving forward for Cleveland to get wins.
"In certain moments, we didn't execute and that starts with me," Gabriel said. "It's always frustrating when it's not going the way you want it to. In crucial moments, you have to execute and we didn't.
"When things aren’t going well, there is always going to be change because to keep doing the same thing and don’t change anything is insanity. I feel like at times there are things that went well, that we sustained and executed."
