Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has entered the game against the Baltimore Ravens in the third quarter, as Dillon Gabriel has been ruled out with a concussion.
Sanders was the Browns' fifth-round pick in the NFL Draft, after many expected him to go in the first or second round.
In his senior season at Colorado, Sanders completed 74 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He finished eighth in Heisman voting and won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year award.
He was also impressive in the year prior in 2023, completing 69.3 percent of his passes for 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Fans have been waiting for Sanders to get a shot, as fellow rookie quarterback Gabriel hasn't thrived. Gabriel has completed 58.6 percent of his passes for 869 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also added 84 yards on the ground.
Sanders is a pocket passer, whereas Gabriel is a mobile quarterback. Cleveland will need to change up their offensive gameplan to adjust to their new quarterback.
The Browns led 16-10 in the third quarter as Sanders entered the game.
Cleveland will also need to lean on the run game with rookie running back Quinshon Judkins to ease Sanders into the game. Judkins has rushed for 39 yards on 11 attempts in the game thus far.
On the season, Judkins has been productive, rushing for 561 yards and five touchdowns on 140 carries.
The stadium erupted as Sanders entered the game. On his first drive, the 23-year-old quarterback completed both of his passes for 12 yards. However, the Browns went three-and-out, punting it back to Baltimore.
The Browns have had a revolving door at quarterback since Baker Mayfield left. While Sanders wasn't a top draft pick, he is talented and is getting his chance to prove he belongs.
Sanders will look to make a big impression on Cleveland's coaching staff. If he is able to lead them to a win over Baltimore, it would go a long way in Sanders earning the starting job for the rest of the season.
