The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in receiver Rashee Rice’s season debut.
All eyes will be on Rice in his return from a six-game suspension and he was initially reported to not be eased into a large role, but time will tell how he is used.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been on a hot streak recently and looks more like the Mahomes of the past. Mahomes has eight touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns over his last three games with just one interception over that stretch.
Considering how weak the Raiders’ secondary is, Mahomes should be in line for another huge performance. And with his top receiver back in the lineup, Mahomes’ excitement is through the roof.
“Everyone in the Chiefs' facility knows how excited WR Rashee Rice is to make his return from a six-game suspension, including QB Patrick Mahomes,” ESPN’s Nate Taylor wrote Friday. ‘He's going to want to be out there every single play. ... It's going to be our job, as teammates and coaches, to build him back the right way.’ A good balance for Rice could be getting him the ball early and keeping him on the field for roughly 50% of snaps.”
On top of Rice returning to the lineup, receiver Xavier Worthy is getting healthier by the day and should benefit from Rice drawing attention.
“Chiefs WRs Xavier Worthy and Rice are positioned for huge performances,” ESPN’s Eric Moody wrote Friday. “Mahomes is on fire, averaging 28.4 fantasy points over his past three games. The Raiders' defense has allowed the fourth-most receptions and fifth-most fantasy points per game to WRs this season.”
Running backs Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt have been relatively quiet all season long, but this matchup could open the door for more success on the ground for Kansas City’s lead back; ESPN's Seth Walder believes Pacheco will have his best week of the season against Las Vegas.
“Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco will rush for 60-plus yards for the first time this season. The Chiefs run inside zone 32% of the time (second most), and the Raiders are allowing 4.7 yards per carry (fourth most).”
The Chiefs are 12-2 against the Raiders with Mahomes under center, and based on how the season has gone for both teams, the Chiefs are heavy favorites in this battle between division rivals.
