Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs continued their hot streak on Monday night, as they knocked off the Washington Commanders 28-7.
The Chiefs have won five of their last six games after starting out 0-2, and the offense is clicking like it hasn't in a few years.
Kelce had his best game of the season on Monday night, as he finished with six catches for 99 yards and a touchdown.
The score was a record-setting one, as he tied Priest Holmes with his 83rd regular season touchdown and his 100th overall.
Holmes played with the Chiefs from 2001-2007, and his 2001-2003 seasons run is as good as any running back has ever had. During those three years, he rushed for 4,590 yards and 56 touchdowns. He could have added a fourth, but hurt his hip halfway into the 2004 season where he had 892 yards and 14 touchdowns.
While Patrick Mahomes is extremely happy to have wide receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy back playing, Kelce may be even happier they're back.
In the beginning of the season, he was seeing much more double coverage, as he was the focal point on the offense. With Worthy providing a vertical threat and Rice also able to dominate in the middle of the field, it allows Kelce to get the favorable matchups.
At his age, he isn't a No. 1 target anymore. However, he is still more than capable of being a No. 3 option in a defense, as linebackers still can't guard him one-on-one.
This is not only going to benefit the Chiefs now, but also as we get deeper into the season. Last year, Kelce had to play such a huge role in the offense, that he was worn down at the end of the season.
With all the receivers back, he doesn't have to put up huge numbers for the Chiefs to be successful. This is going to allow him to be much more fresh for the January and potentially February football games, which is really when the Chiefs need him.
Earlier in the season, the Chiefs were looking like they might not be the team of the past. However, they have a sent a reminder to the rest of the league that any Super Bowl talks must still involve the Chiefs.
They have another opportunity to send a message to the league in Week 9 when they travel to Buffalo to take on Josh Allen and the Bills.
