The Dallas Cowboys' 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday was an emotional roller-coaster as coach Brian Schottenheimer's team found itself down 21-0 early.
Self-inflicted wounds in all three phases seemingly doomed Dallas and handed Philadelphia the early advantage.
But the Cowboys' defense in the second half, buckled down and didn't allow points on eight straight drives. And Dak Prescott and the offense - umm, George Pickens, really - then sliced up an elite Eagles defense.
Dak spoke post-game and used one word often - "belief.''
This team has it in spades and down three TDs to an 8-2 team coming off a Super Bowl win?
Yes, that can be hard to come by.
And now here is Schottenheimer revealing his message to the team when things were spiraling out of control early, to then mounting a ridiculous comeback to keep the season alive.
Sense a theme here, folks.
“We've talked about it from the beginning, you've heard me say it a thousand times, you can't win the game in the first quarter, second, third, but you win the game in the fourth quarter,” Schottenheimer said. “We just talked about that. We shot ourselves in the foot. I told them that, but I told them, believe, believe in each other, believe in the fact that we'll find a way to do it.
"I really think today really epitomized a lot of things that those guys have been believing in doing, and it was great to get that win against a damn good football team.”
Knowing that their season was slipping away, Dallas rallied and dug itself out of the hole and inflicted a painful loss for the Eagles.
Now with the season still alive, the 5-5-1 Cowboys will welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to AT&T Stadium for Thanksgiving with another chance to show that the aforementioned "belief'' gained from the Eagles' win won't go to waste.
Said owner Jerry Jones: You've got to be excited about what we've got out here. I hope our fans are as proud of these players as I am. In four days we'll be playing again, and they can't wait and I can't wait to play again."
