It has been a tough year for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, and there is no doubt that pressure is being applied.

The Dallas Cowboys' defense has been the main headline of the 2025 season, and not in a good way.

Coordinator Matt Eberflus' group has been one of the worst units in football.

Granted, injuries to key personnel haven't helped (nor has the Micah Parsons trade-away), but overall, it has been a horror show in 2025.

Dallas (7-8-1) gives up, on average, a whopping 29.8 points per game (31st), and is often a quarterback's get-well game.

Even Josh Johnson of the Washington Commanders looked comfortable against Dallas' defense, despite losing 30-23 on Christmas Day.

The big plays were there, both in the air and on the ground, as the Cowboys' defense again looked all at sea at times. Something that we have become accustomed to.

The move to the booth for Eberflus has made no difference, and in truth, most knew it wouldn't. It was one last dart throw to try and get something positive going.

Jerry Jones was happy with the win post-game as he spoke to the media, and on Friday, but wanted to make sure that fans knew his feelings about the defense.

Was he satisfied with the scheme and the work of defensive coaching staff?

“No, not at all," Jerry said on 105.3 The Fan. "We've got a lot of work to do there. I'm sorry if I have let my enthusiasm for the win misrepresent. No, not at all. We've got a lot of work to do over there, but we can do it.”

Jerry also brought up that one way to help it is to manage the "continuity we don't have, some of these teams have had the same continuity on their defensive scheme for years."

Based on the body of work, there can't be any rational reason to bring Eberflus back.

It hasn't worked. That's fine. Move on.

Jerry isn't happy with the defense this season, and he isn't alone.

Running it back in 2026 for continuity's sake is a recipe for disaster.
