The closure of Kryptovault’s Bitcoin mining facility in Stokmarknes, Norway, has led to a 20% increase in local electricity bills after the Hadsel municipality chose not to renew its operating permit due to persistent noise complaints from nearby residents. The facility, which consumed over 80 GWh annually and contributed 20% of the local energy company Noranett's income, had long troubled residents with noise from its air coolers. Despite efforts to reduce the noise, locals remained unsatisfied, leading to the shutdown. Source: Cryptopolitan
