Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced at SXSW that NFTs will soon be added to Instagram. While specific details of the update have not been made public, potential features for users include the ability to mint NFTs within the Instagram app, exchange NFTs with other users, and display NFTs in various facets of an Instagram profile.

“We are working on bringing NFTs to Instagram in the near term,” Zuckerberg stated during a conversation with Daymond John of Shark Tank. “I’m not ready to announce exactly what that’s going to be today, but, over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, and hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment.”

Instagram’s NFT features have been in the works for quite some time. According to Variety, Instagram hosted “Creator Week” last summer, an invite-only virtual event for NFT creators.
