The Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to a compelling NFL trade deadline move to fill a big need.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been pretty hard to figure out this season, but nevertheless, they sit at 5-2 and are in first place in the NFC East as they attempt to defend their Super Bowl title.

But in spite of the Eagles' record, there are clearly issues here, and while the offense has been the bigger story the first seven weeks, perhaps the defense has more problems.

Philadelphia's pass rush in particular has been weak, with Philly having logged just 11 sacks thus far on the campaign.

The Eagles lost both Josh Sweat and Milton Williams during the offseason and have been unable to replace them. Za'Darius Smith abruptly retired, Azeez Ojulari has been a bust and it doesn't help that Nolan Smith is on injured reserve.

Many are expecting Philadelphia to try and swing a move at the trade deadline to bolster its pass rush, and ESPN's Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler have identified a very intriguing potential target for the club: Tennessee Titans edge rusher Arden Key.

"With his length at 6-5 and short-area closing speed, Key can be set up on the edge or schemed out of loaded fronts," Bowen wrote. "In five games played this season, Key has 1.5 sacks -- and he had a total of 12.5 over his previous two seasons with Tennessee. Key could be viewed as a situational pass rusher for a contending team."

Key isn't exactly Trey Hendrickson, but he has managed to amass 28 total sacks since entering the NFL as a third-round pick of the Oakland Raiders back in 2018. He has bounced around the league quite a bit and is now on his fourth team.

The 29-year-old has topped out at 6.5 sacks twice, first achieving the number with the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 and then doing it again with the Titans last season.

Key is not really a full-time defender, primarily playing on pass-rushing downs. In fact, he has played in just 50 percent of Tennessee's defensive snaps this year. But that's okay.

Perhaps Key can take on the pass-rushing specialist role that Bryce Huff was supposed to fill in Philadelphia last year?

The LSU product is in the final year of his contract, so he wouldn't be too costly for the Eagles. Plus, Philadelphia has a treasure trove of 2026 draft picks, so they could afford to part with one for Key.
