Castaic: Around 11:55 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2021, a silver Nissan Altima struck and killed a black bear in the center divider of the Southbound I-5 Freeway at Cherry Canyon. The bear was possibly walking in the #1 lane when it was struck and killed by the passing motorist.
California Highway Patrol responded, along with a tow truck for the vehicle involved. Cal-Trans was requested to the location to remove the bear from the center divider. The driver of the severely damaged vehicle was uninjured in the collision.
