The LSU Tigers have named Frank Wilson the interim head coach in the wake of Brian Kelly's firing. Here's everything you need to know about the New Orleans native.

The LSU Tigers decided to move on from head coach Brian Kelly on Friday, which made Frank Wilson the easy choice to become the interim coach.

Wilson would best be described as "your favorite player's favorite coach."

Legendary Tigers running back Leonard Fournette had this to say on social media when Wilson was brought back to the staff by Kelly, per Joseph Salvador: "Wait this is probably the most important key to LSU, [Wilson is] the best running back coach I've had on all levels."

The New Orleans native, St. Augustine alumnus, is a Louisiana football staple. He has coached at Edna Karr, O. Perry Walker and McNeese State in the past; he has been at LSU for a total of nine years over two stints.

Wilson is a recruiting ace, an excellent running backs coach and perhaps most notably: knows the expectations and traditions of the Tigers football program.

Four of the top 10 individual rushing seasons in school history came with Wilson at the helm of that room and were by running backs whom were recruited by him.

The 51-year-old has been a head coach and two stops before, the UTSA Roadrunners and the McNeese St. Cowboys. His track record there isn't elite, just a 26-40 record, which is why he has been an assistant coach and will likely remain that way once the season ends.

Whoever the next permanent head coach of the program is would be smart to make sure that Wilson is one of the first people to be brought back to the staff.

Should Wilson take LSU for a nice run over these final four games, he could potentially propel himself into another opportunity elsewhere with a ton of opening across the country.

The remaining schedule includes trips to No. 4 Alabama and No. 18 Oklahoma, as well as the Tigers hosting Arkansas and Western Kentucky.
