New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is at the forefront of the team's free agency questions this offseason once again.
This time, both sides don't want it to linger, and with a lot of buzz around Alonso, he should sign fairly soon this free agency period.
With Jon Heyman previously reporting that the Baltimore Orioles could make a run at Pete Alonso, Jon Morosi of MLB Network also stated that the Boston Red Sox are considered the strongest contender to poach Alonso from the Mets.
However, Joe Tansey of Bleacher Report has a different prediction. He has Alonso landing with the Texas Rangers, and here's what he wrote.
"A return to the New York Mets is always in the cards for the power-hitting first baseman, but if he wants a change of scenery, there are plenty of options available. Baltimore could use a fresh bat in the middle of an order that largely features homegrown prospects. The Orioles are coming off a disastrous season. A potential deal for Alonso would mark a new era of baseball in Baltimore."
"The Texas Rangers are an intriguing fit for Alonso," Tansey added. "They aren't afraid to go after big names in free agency and need an upgrade over Jake Burger at first base. Even if Alonso signs to be the designated hitter, he'd be an instant upgrade over what Joc Pederson and others provided in 2025. A heart of the order featuring Corey Seager, Marcus Semien and Alonso would help Texas compete with the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners in the AL West."
That's definitely a sleeper team, but it makes sense for the Rangers.
If the Mets do lose Alonso, seeing him go to the American League is the best-case scenario for them. However, would Alonso go to the Rangers, a team with a brand-new manager, over a team such as the Red Sox?
It might be about who makes the best offer to Alonso, so this will be a name to monitor over the next few weeks.
