Brock Pierce and Marco Vicenzino: Global Politics Has a Leadership Problem
The Russian invasion of Ukraine signals a dramatic shift not only in geopolitics, but also in governance, technology and internatonial aid. Geopolitical analyst Marco Vicenzino and Bitcoin Foundation chairman Brock Pierce joined Roundtable to discuss governance, the blockchain and the ongoing war.
In this segment, Vicenzino and Pierce discuss the current context of global leadership. They note that public pressure has played a major role in governments' response to the Russian invasion, despite a lack of notable leadership from above.
"I feel like there's a vacuum of leadership in general, and that concerns me," Pierce says. "I spend a lot of time talking to our government, and from my conversations, as I take a look under the hood, we're not as organized as you think. Everything I see concerns me, a lack of leadership, a lack of strategy, a lack of planning."
Marco Vicenzino notes that part of that lack of leadership has to do with a generational disconnect.
"You look around the Western world and much of the leadership age wise is disconnected from the reality on the ground of a younger generation," he says. "They see the world in a different way. That generational divide is between those who are technologically left behind and those who are moving forward. The gap keeps getting wider and wider and the situation gets more dangerous as we go forward."
