The Roundtable: Society and Sexual Violence

Is there a place for "personal responsibility" in conversations about rape?

Joy Villa, Sharon Kyle, Taylor Ferber and Nick Hamilton joined Roundtable to discuss recent controversies around gender and race in media. In this segment they talk about the persistence of sexual violence.

"We know rape is wrong morally, but people will still do it, so you have to protect yourself," says the musician Joy Villa.

"Use intelligence. We can't just say, 'Well, the country and the society.' To me, politics has nothing to do with this issue."

Dissenting from others on the panel, she continues, "This is about personal accountability. If I walk down the alley in the middle of the night. Even if I have a gun on me, that's stupid. No, it doesn't give that person the right, but that's stupid."
