The Roundtable: Trump, Media & Public Trust

Can media coverage around the FBI raid on Mar-a-lago and the subsequent investigation accomplish anything?

A panel of experts joined Roundtable to discuss the Mar-a-Lago raid, gun policy, free speech and other current issues. In this segment they discuss the results of the ongoing investigation of Trump's handling of classified information.

Taylor Ferber notes that trust in government and the media is at all-time lows for a reason.

"When it comes to distrust in the government and the media, it's all like one big tango," she says. "During COVID, I remember challenging [official narratives] on my show, and it gave me anxiety because I was like, who in the CDC, trenches is gonna come after me for this. And now we're learning how messed up psychologically kids are, how behind they are and how low their testing scores are, how much they've dropped. But at the time, you know, can't challenge it."

Tracy Hoyos-Lopez says the public has a right to know facts—around the former president or any other issue.

"I don't care about what your personal opinion is," she says. "That's what critical thinking is, for which we definitely have a deficit of it in this country, but people are entitled to know what is happening so that they can actually make an informed decision."

She continues, "The media keeps pushing their opinion, their biases—we're looking right now at a court order where the White House has to disclose the emails in the event that they had collusion with social media on the information that was being pushed throughout election season. That's a very dangerous precedent to set, because that means that these social media giants have been acting as agents of government. Which will lead to a first amendment violation."
