Dominant wins propel Notre Dame's seven-game streak, catapulting them into the top 10. The Irish continue their ascent in the latest Coaches Poll.
Notre Dame won its seventh straight game this weekend when it whipped Navy by a 49-10 score. The Irish have won all seven games during that stretch by double figures, and the 39-point win over the Midshipmen is the second biggest scoring margin of the season for the Irish.
The win combined with a loss by BYU to move the Irish up one spot to No. 9 in the latest Coaches Poll. Notre Dame has climbed all the way up from No. 21, which is where it ranked after week three, when the Irish dropped their second straight game to start the season. Notre Dame has steadily rose during its current win streak, jumping back into the Top 10 last week and climbing up another spot this weekend.
Notre Dame has a win over one Top 25, with the Irish beating USC by a 34-24 score three weeks ago. USC rose up to No. 18 in the polls after its convincing win over Northwester on Friday night. Notre Dame plays the Pitt Panthers (7-2) next weekend, and Pitt entered the Coaches Poll for the first time this season. Pitt was off this weekend but jumped in after Memphis and Iowa lost yesterday.
Notre Dame benefited from the Cougars getting whipped by Texas Tech yesterday, with the Red Raiders establishing themselves as the team to beat in the Big 12 with their 29-7 win. BYU fell to No. 12 in the rankings this week. Notre Dame's two losses came to No. 3 Texas A&M and No. 16 Miami.
