The Green Bay Packers have to feel good about their chances of beating the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7 of the 2025 NFL season. The Packers are 3-1-1 and in first place in the NFC North. The Cardinals, in the meantime, are 2-4 and they're on a four-game losing skid.
By all accounts, this is a game the Packers should handily win. In fact, ESPN BET considers them to be a 7.5-point road favorite, which is something you don't often see in the NFL. Winning on the road is tough, to say the least.
This doesn't mean that the Packers will be able to walk into State Farm Stadium in Glendale and simply roll out the helmets and expect a win, though. This is the NFL, after all, and the Cardinals are getting paid lots of money to come up with ways to beat the Packers.
Do the Packers objectively have the more talented team on both sides of the ball? The answer to that question is a resounding yes.
Do the Packers have weaknesses that the Cardinals can exploit, though? Again, the answer to that question is a resounding yes.
That's just life in the NFL, baby.
So what should the Packers be worried about heading into this one?
The offense seems to be getting itself together and any defense that has a superstars like it like Micah Parsons, Edgerrin Cooper and Xavier McKinney is going to be good.
With that said, there is one aspect of this defense that the Cardinals may be able to expose on Sunday, and that's the interior of the defensive line.
Unfortunately for the Pack, the latest injury report has ruled out defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt for the second-straight game, and defensive end Lukas Van Ness will also be out with a foot injury.
Wyatt checks in at 6-foot-3, 304 pounds and he's a huge presence in the middle of the defensive line. He's big enough to be a run-stopper but agile and fast enough to be an elite pass-rusher for a big man. Wyatt already has two sacks on the season, and he has 12 over the past three seasons combined.
The Packers undoubtedly missed Wyatt against the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend, but they were able to compensate for his loss a bit by moving Van Ness inside. Van Ness isn't a one-technique but he's absolutely big and strong enough at 6-foot-5, 272 pounds to slide into the three-technique role and be a run-stopper. In fact, that's probably what he's been best at early in his career and he's still looking to develop his pass-rush.
What that means for the Packers against the Cardinals is that their best replacement for the size and athleticism of Wyatt, which was Van Ness, is out. They do have decent depth in the trio of Karl Brooks (6-foot-3, 296 pounds), Nazir Stackhouse (6-foot-4, 327 pounds) and Colby Wooden (6-foot-4, 273 pounds), but those three are rotational players along the defensive line for a reason. There is absolutely a drop off between them and the Wyatt/Van Ness combo.
If the Cardinals were smart (and it's worth noting that they may not be), that's exactly where their offense should attack this weekend.
