Suddenly, things are not so rosy in the tundra, as the Green Bay Packers have gone the last two weeks without win. They fell to the Cleveland Browns in Week 3, and this past Sunday, they tied against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Packers exhibited some clear holes in both games, particularly against the Cowboys when they allowed 40 points and 436 yards in the overtime affair.
Heading into the season, Green Bay's defense was billed as arguably the NFL's best thanks to the Micah Parsons trade, but there was one obvious area of concern: the secondary. More specifically, the cornerback position.
That's why Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has connected the Packers to a trade for Brown cornerback Greg Newsome II, placing a fourth-round value on the former first-round pick.

"Cleveland still appears to be going nowhere in 2025, which is why trading cornerback Greg Newsome II ahead of the deadline would make sense," Knox wrote. "Yes, Newsome has started all four games this season for a defense that is the one unit on which the Browns can hang their hat. However, having a fantastic defense means little when the offense and special teams are struggling as badly as Cleveland's."
Newsome has logged 17 tackles and a couple of passes defended through four games this season, managing a respectable 63.6 overall grade at Pro Football Focus. However, his 60.6 coverage grade definitely leaves something to be desired.
The 25-year-old was actually impressive over his first three campaigns between 2021 and 2023 before taking a major step back last year, when he registered 27 tackles, an interception and five passes defended in 13 games while posting a rough 52.2 grade at Pro Football Focus.
At this point, it seems relatively safe to say that Newsome will never be a No. 1 corner, but he would still represent a solid addition to Green Bay's needy cornerback room.
The only qualm that the Packers may have is that they just traded two first-round picks for Parsons, so they may not be so amenable to moving a fourth for Newsome. Then again, they are trying to win a Super Bowl now, so perhaps they would pull the trigger if such a deal arises.
