Green Bay Packers star Micah Parsons just landed a very surprising assessment.

When the Green Bay Packers acquired Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys just before the regular season began, Parsons was expected to take an already good defense to a genuinely elite level.

Over the first three weeks, that appeared to be the case, as the Packers boasted one of the most dominant defenses in football. But then, Green Bay surrendered 40 points in an overtime tie against Parsons' former Cowboys squad last Sunday, raising some serious questions.

Parsons himself has gotten off to a rather up-and-down start, thanks much in part to a back sprain that had him on a snap count over the first couple of games and still seems to be bothering himself. He has logged eight tackles and 2.5 sacks thus far, but he has totaled nine quarterback hits, demonstrating that he is getting into opposing backfields.

Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus seems to think Parsons has been brilliant, though, claiming that the 26-year-old is the Defensive Player of the Quarter thus far.

"You could make a case for at least four edge defenders alone to be in the running for this award," McGuinness wrote. "However, it is Parsons who leads all players at the position with a 93.4 PFF pass-rush grade. His 25 total pressures are tied with Will Anderson Jr. for the most in the NFL, while his 28.0% pass-rush win rate is tied for fourth."

This is probably where we get a just a bit carried away with analytics, because I don't think you will find many people who say that Parsons has been the best defensive player in football this year. Parsons himself would probably even disagree with that.

However, the fact that the four-time Pro Bowler is still finding a way to make a significant impact in spite of not being 100 percent healthy shows just how good he really is.

Parsons was originally selected by Dallas with the 12th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft and posted double-digit sack totals in each of his first four seasons. Last year, he registered 43 tackles and 12 sacks in 13 games.

The Packers are 2-1-1 and are heading into a bye week. They will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6.
