The Green Bay Packers got off to a slow start and were unable to get things firing on all cylinders all game long in Week 7 action against the Arizona Cardinals. However, behind the stellar play of superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons, they were able to pull out a hard-fought 27-23 win.
With the win, the Packers moved to 4-1-1 on the season. It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.
Coming out of this week's win, Green Bay is facing a lot of questions. Whether or not they made a good decision by trading two first-round picks and Kenny Clark to the Dallas Cowboys for Parsons is not one of those questions.
Not only did the Packers go all-in with the trade, they went farther and gave Parsons a massive four-year, $188 million contract extension.
Despite the price that Green Bay paid, Parsons showed exactly why Brian Gutekunst made that move against the Cardinals.
Throughout the course of the game, Parsons racked up five total tackles, three sacks, and five quarterback hits. He was a game-wrecker from start to finish and continually stepped up when the Packers needed him the most.
Following his head-turning performance against Arizona, his overall season numbers improved to 16 tackles and 5.5 sacks. While he hasn't produced sacks consistently in every game, his impact has been felt immensely. Parsons has continually put pressure on the quarterback.
Parsons and the rest of the defense likely aren't terribly pleased with their overall performance against the Cardinals. They gave up too many big plays, especially when they had an opportunity to get off the field on third down. But, the performance was enough to get a win.
Hopefully, this is a momentum swing that Parsons can continue riding. No one should expect three sacks per game, but he appeared to find his groove against Arizona.
In order for Green Bay to be the Super Bowl contender that the team wants to be, Parsons will be needed to have many more big performances.
Next up, the Packers will hit the road for a huge Sunday Night Football showdown against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Parsons will be looking to get after Rodgers in the 40-year-old quarterback's first game playing against his old team.
It will be interesting to see how Green Bay looks next week. The Packers will need to come through with a much better all-around performance against the Steelers if they want to get a win than they did against the Cardinals.
