The Philadelphia Phillies could end up being one of the busiest teams in baseball this offseason, and apparently, their activity is already underway at the GM meetings.
Matt Gelb of The Athletic has reported that the Phillies are "actively shopping" outfielder Nick Castellanos, who is in line to make $20 million in the final year of his contract next season.
That Philadelphia is attempting to trade Castellanos does not come as much of a surprise. The veteran slashed just .250/.294/.400 with 17 home runs and 72 RBI over 589 plate appearances while playing horrendous right field defense in 2025.
On top of that, Castellanos' relationship with manager Rob Thomson seems irreparable, and it had gotten to the point where the locker room had even turned against the two-time All-Star thanks to one exchange in particular that he had with Thomson.
The problem for the Phillies is that they will have a very difficult time finding a team willing to take on Castellanos' remaining salary, so they may have to eat some of that deal in order to actually move him.

Castellanos was originally selected by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 2010 MLB Draft and made his big-league debut in 2013. He resided with the Tigers through the first half of 2019 before being traded to the Chicago Cubs. Castellanos then signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2020 and spent two seasons there before joining Philadelphia.
The 33-year-old's best campaign came with the Reds in 2021, when he slashed .309/.362/.576 with 34 homers and 100 RBI across 585 trips to the dish.
Castellanos has not come close to posting that type of production since, as he hasn't even logged an OPS of .800 or better since that 2021 season. However, he did smash 29 long balls while driving in 106 runs with the Phillies as recently as 2023.
The Hialeah, Fl. native owns a lifetime .272/.321/.464 slash line, but his power numbers have dipped considerably over the last several years.
Philadelphia's outfield situation in general is a mess right now, as Harrison Bader and Max Kepler are also free agents.
The Phillies have been tabbed as a potential destination for Kyle Tucker, so we will see if Dave Dombrowski can make a big splash this winter.
