A trade between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies wouldn’t come as much of a surprise this winter, as the Pirates have a few players on their current roster who could be significant upgrades in Philadelphia.

One in particular would be Bryan Reynolds, an outfielder, a position Philadelphia clearly needs to address.

Throughout much of the past few years, if there's one thing to say about the Phillies, it's that Dave Dombrowski hasn't done a good enough job putting together a competent outfield.

Specifically, they've had some problems in center. Reynolds could come in and help fix that.

He's played center for a bit throughout his career, but is also more of a corner outfielder at this stage of his career. Nonetheless, he played 127 games in center field in 2022.

When examining trades the Phillies could make, Destiny Lugardo of Phillies Nation proposed one between the Phillies and Pirates for Reynolds, noting that he's coming off a down year and shouldn't cost too much.

“A perpetual trade candidate, Reynolds is coming off a down year and thus won’t cost as much as he would have in 2022, 2023, 2024 or leading into 2025. There have been indications that the Pirates will actually spend this offseason — let’s see about that — but even if they do, Reynolds still probably doesn’t fit their current window. He turns 31 in January. Reynolds is under contract through the end of the 2030 season with a team option for 2031. That is a long time, but it’s a manageable price tag at $76 million guaranteed, an average of $15 million annually,” she wrote.

For a player like Reynolds, Philadelphia should be interested if it doesn't have to give up a whole lot. He's on an eight-year, $106.75 million deal through 2031, so he wouldn't be relatively cheap in terms of a contract.

Reynolds had a down year for his sake, appearing in 154 games and hitting just .245 with 16 home runs.

In each of the four years before that, he's been one of the better hitters in baseball, hitting at least 24 home runs in each as well as posting an OPS+ above 120 in three of the four.
