Bo Bichette and the Philadelphia Phillies may not seem like a free agent match, but there's a scenario where it could.

The Philadelphia Phillies must be active in free agency this offseason. They are still in win-now mode and should be looking to add an upgrade in any way they can.

Even though Philadelphia’s offense wasn’t the main issue for the team last season, a lineup can never have too many All-Star hitters. One of the top free agents on the market is Bo Bicheete, and there is a world where it would make sense for Philadelphia to pursue him.

Let’s break down that potential scenario.

If Kyle Schwarber Leaves In Free Agency

The Phillies’ top priority should be trying to bring back Kyle Schwarber, but there’s a very real possibility that a rival team pries the National League MVP finalist away from the city of Brotherly Love.

In that case, quite a bit of money would come off the books, along with J.T. Realmuto and Ranger Suarez, who are free agents, giving Philadelphia the funds to go after another top free agent bat, which could possibly be Bichette.

The Phillies Could Re-align The Infield

Of course, Bichette’s main position is at shortstop, and that position is locked up by Trae Turner for the long-term future.

That said, Bichette did show in a very small sample size in the World Series that he could play a solid second base if he’s willing to do so in Philadelphia. That would push Bryson Stott off the right side of the infield, but there could be a spot for him at third base if the Alec Bohm trade rumors that were present last offseason kick back up. Who knows, maybe Stott could be used as trade bait.

It’s a complicated process and would involve possibly multiple players changing their position, but we've seen wilder things happen in MLB. Remember when Bryce Harper had never played an inning at first base?

An Unlikely, But Possible, Scenario For The Phillies

Admittedly, Bichette ending up in Philadelphia next season does seem a little far-fetched, but if the Phillies lose out on Schwarber and are willing to shake up their roster, it would not make sense to add Bo to the mix.

Bichette shouldn't be their No. 1 target on the open market, but depending on how free agency shakes out, there is a scenario where it wouldn’t be shocking if the Phillies end up as a possible suitor for the 27-year-old.
