It was cold in Green Bay on Monday night, but it wasn't snowing and it wasn't sloppy. Neither the Philadelphia Eagles nor the Green Bay Packers could blame Mother Nature for their offensive woes on national TV.
But there it was, all night long. Scoring was at a premium in this slugfest, won by the Eagles 10-7 on a chilly 29-degree night. We didn't see a single point until Jake Elliott kicked a field goal midway through the third quarter, and we had to wait until the fourth quarter before either team could score a touchdown.
Points, without question, were at a premium. And the defending champions scored just enough to win, going to 7-2 on the season and taking a 3.5-game lead in the NFC East. Green Bay lost its second straight home game and fell to 5-3-1, and fell a half-game behind both the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. They lost 16-13 to the Carolina Panthers last week in another offensive disaster.
“We knew it was going to be a four-quarter fistfight,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said of the loss to the Eagles. “I thought our defense was outstanding, and unfortunately, just too many mistakes offensively to overcome it.”
The Packers continued to shoot themselves in the foot all night long. Here's what went wrong, according to Packers Roundtable writer Andrew Kulha.
Moldy Cheese: 3 biggest disappointments in Green Bay Packers' 10-7 loss to Philadelphia Eagles
Offense falters, defense shines, but key players (and coaches) disappoint in a brutal Green Bay Packers' loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Discover the three biggest letdowns.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love was just 20-for-36 passing for 176 yards, his fewest passing yards of the season. He failed to throw a touchdown pass for the second straight game and he was sacked three times. He also lost a fumble on one of two Packers turnovers. Running back Josh Jacobs also lost a fumble.
“We're just kind of shooting ourselves in the foot right now, getting in a funk of having some good plays and then not building off them properly and having a play that might hurt the drive and we can't overcome it,” Love told reporters after the game.
All-Pro running back Saquan Barkley had just 60 yards on 22 carries — a measly 2.7-yard average — for the Eagles. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was just 15-for-26 passing for 183 yards, but he found DeVonta Smith for a 36-yard score in the fourth quarter to give Philadelphia a 10-0 lead. They had only two plays over 22 yards all night, the other a 41-yard catch-and-run by Barkley
it's the third time this season that the Packers have allowed 16 points or less — and still lost. And it's the Eagles who know how to win close games. They are 6-1 in one-score games this season
This 2025 Eagles team is almost certainly going to make at least a small part of history. They are going to repeat as NFC East champions, which is a real rarity. It hasn't happened since 2004 when the Eagles won their last of four straight division titles.
The NFC East was often called the toughest division in football, but now the Eagles are the only competent team out there. The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are a mess, and the Washington Commanders are decimated by injuries, starting with quarterback Jayden Daniels. Those three teams are a combined 8-20-1 right now, and four of those eight wins are inside the division.
Here's the amazing history of NFC East balance this century:
