On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Angels pulled out a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Twins. Unfortunately, the Angels saw reliever Reid Detmers leave the game early.
Detmers went just 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit before leaving the mound.
After the game, the southpaw said he felt something in his forearm and said his arm felt "dead," which was a cause for concern.
On Thursday, Detmers underwent an MRI, and the Angels placed him on the IL, according to Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register.
"The Angels don’t yet have the results of Reid Detmers’ MRI..“Inflammation” is a catch all word used for IL assignments before the extent of the injury is known."
But, there is a scenario where the veteran returns in 2025, per Taylor Blake Ward of Baseball America.
"Reid Detmers goes to IL with inflammation in his throwing elbow, Detmers had MRI today after feeling dead arm yesterday but particularly said he had no pain inside his elbow -- he is eligible to return for final series of season though unknown severity of inflammation," Ward wrote on X.
In a corresponding move, the Angels called up Chase Silseth from Triple-A.
Detmers has a 5-3 record with a 3.96 ERA in 61 appearances for the Angels, so he has been a pivotal part of the bullpen in 2025.
In the outing on Wednesday, Detmers velocity was considerably down.
Detmers has been with the Angels' big league club since 2021, but he appeared in a total of 45 games over the past two seasons, which makes the 2025 campaign even more impressive for the left-hander.
As of now, the Angels will be without Detmers, but don't rule out a return this season.
