The Astros’ season may have ended a few weeks ago, but the baseball offseason is officially here, with the Los Angeles Dodgers closing out 2025 with a World Series win. So, what does the offseason have in store for Houston?

The team’s primary focus should be on recovery. Several key players ended the season early due to injuries, making this the perfect time to rest and recover, ensuring they’re ready to start the 2026 season strong.

Beyond recovery, the Astros need to develop their younger talent so they are ready to step up. With some veterans approaching free agency, the team must focus on preparing the next generation of players who can eventually become the cornerstone of Houston’s roster. This is about building depth, shaping prospects, and creating a seamless transition from the current veteran core to future stars.

The players up for free agency are Framber Valdez (starting pitcher) and Victor Caratini (backup catcher). Valdez, being the Astros’ ace, would be a tough loss if he signs with another team, but the team has Hunter Brown ready to step up to the mound. With Yainer Díaz as the current starting catcher, Brown and Díaz could form a strong battery.

Losing Victor Caratini, a solid backup, won’t hit as hard as losing Valdez, but even so, losing a reliable backup is not ideal.

With these upcoming changes, including roster moves and coaching staff adjustments, the Astros could look like a completely new team in the near future, with new stars and a new philosophy.
