George Springer continued his historic domination of the playoffs on Wednesday night in the Toronto Blue Jays' 13-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series at T-Mobile Park.
Springer went 3-for-6 with a home run, his second of the series, as Toronto pulled within 2-1 in the best-of-seven. The winner advances to the World Series, where the Mariners have never been and the Jays haven't been since 1993.
With his 22nd career playoff home run, Springer is now tied for fourth all-time on the playoff home run list. He's tied with Bernie Williams and behind only Kyle Schwarber (23), Jose Altuve (27) and Manny Ramirez (29).
And there's also this:
George Springer
11th player in MLB history to have all 6 of his first postseason hits go for extra bases
The 36-year-old Springer has played in 17 different playoff series in his career (eight different years). He helped the Astros win the World Series in 2017 and helped them get back in 2019, where they lost to the Washington Nationals. He's a career .267 playoff hitter with the 22 homers and 42 RBIs. He's got a .343 on-base percentage, and the Jays need his production in the absence of Bo Bichette, who is still out with a left knee sprain.
Game 4 will be played on Thursday night with first pitch coming at 8:33 p.m. ET. Max Scherzer will take the ball for Toronto while Luis Castillo pitches for Seattle. Castillo went 11-8 in the regular season, but struggled through two outings against the Jays, giving up eight earned runs and 17 hits in just 10 innings.
Castillo is not the same pitcher who dominated Toronto in the 2022 wild card round, but he's pitched well over the last month. The Jays will have a difficult task against him, but as they showed against George Kirby in Game 3, it can be done.
