Trey Yesavage, who has vaulted to the big leagues just one year after being drafted, earned a nice honor from Baseball America.

Congratulations are in order for Toronto Blue Jays' rookie Trey Yesavage, who was named as the team's minor leaguer of the year by Baseball America on Monday.

It's been a meteoric rise for the 22-year-old, who was selected in the first round of the major league draft in 2024. He didn't pitch at all after the draft, so this season was his first work as a professional, and he certainly has made it count.

He began the year at Single-A before moving up to High-A, Double-A, Triple-A and the majors over the last several months. In two starts in the majors, he's 0-0 with a 5.00 ERA. He's struck out 11 batters in nine innings and has put himself in consideration for a role on the playoff roster.

Toronto enters play on Tuesday at 90-66 and in first place in the American League East. They are two games ahead of the New York Yankees and looking to clinch their first division title since 2015. They are also trying to wrap up homefield advantage throughout the American League playoffs.

If Yesavage is to make the postseason roster, his role would be unclear, but he'd likely serve as a bullpen option with Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer acting as starters. Jose Berrios is also an option. Regardless, Yesavage figures to be a staple in the team's rotation next year, especially with Scherzer and Bassitt free agents this offseason.

Yesavage went 5-1 in the minors with a 3.12 ERA. He struck out 160 batters in 98.0 innings. He is still ranked as the No. 25 prospect in the game by MLB Pipeline.

The Blue Jays will open up a series on Tuesday night with the Boston Red Sox. First pitch from Rogers Centre is set for 7:07 p.m. ET. The pitching matchups can be read below. Lucas Giolito (BOS) pitches against Kevin Gausman (TOR) in the opener.
