Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette, who was injured on Sept. 6 against the New York Yankees and is currently on the injured with a left knee sprain, got a positive injury update on Tuesday morning after getting a second opinion.
Per Jon Morosi of MLB.com:
Source: 2nd opinion on Bo Bichette’s left knee sprain has confirmed that the injury is (a) short-term and (b) expected to improve with rest and rehabilitation.
It’s still possible that Bichette returns in time for the postseason; he last played on Sept. 6.

With George Springer, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Daulton Varsho and others, the Blue Jays have a deep and balanced lineup that is capable of doing damage. That said, Bichette is one of the main straws that stirs the drink.
After a dreadful season in 2024, Bichette has rebounded in a big way this season. He's hitting .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, while tallying a .357 on-base percentage and an .840 OPS. He leads the major leagues in hits (181) despite not playing for the last week, and he also has the most doubles in baseball with 44.
The Blue Jays are not the same lineup without him, and if they want to win the organization's first title since 1993, getting him back would go a long way.
Bichette is a free agent at the end of this season, and he's in line for a nice payday in the winter. Still just 27 years old, he won't be as highly sought after as Kyle Tucker, but he could earn himself more than $200 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. This injury doesn't seem to have much of an impact on that potential earning power, but it's still something to monitor.
Though it's not an even trade positionally, Anthony Santander is working his way back from injury. With 44 home runs last season, he's one of the best power hitters in the league. He struggled to a .179 average this year before getting shelved, but he still provides the potential to help cover for any Bichette absences.
He's played four games in a minor league rehab assignment, hitting a home run and driving in two. He'll reportedly stay with Triple-A Buffalo for this week and the team will re-evaluate heading into the final week of the regular season.
