Stephen Vogt has been the manager of the Cleveland Guardians for two years now. Both seasons ended the same way, with the Guardians claiming an American League Central division title and Vogt being named AL Manager of the Year.
Two-for-two isn't bad. He's the first AL manager to repeat since Tampa Bay's Kevin Cash did it in 2020 and 2021.
The 41-year-old Vogt played 10 years in the majors and was Seattle's bullpen coach in 2023 before the Guardians hired him to replace Terry Francona. The move has worked out well. He received 17 of the 30 first-place votes.
Here's the story from Guardians Roundtable writer Tommy Wild.
Guardians’ Stephen Vogt Shares the Credit After Winning Manager of the Year
Stephen Vogt has now won back-to-back Manager of the Year Awards, but made sure to acknowledge the work the entire Cleveland Guardians organization has done.
Toronto's John Schneider, who got 10 first-place votes, was second. Seattle Dan's Wilson and Boston's Alex Cora were third and fourth, respectively. Both got one first-place vote. A.J. Hinch of Detroit was fifth, and Houston's Joe Espada was sixth.
Cleveland made an amazing comeback to win the AL Central this year. They trailed Detroit by 15½ games in early July, and were still 11 games back in early September, a game under .500 at 69-70 on Sept. 4.
But went 19-4 to finish the season, passing the Tigers on the final day of the year. They went 5-1 vs. the Tigers in the final month. Erasing that 15½-game deficit was the largest comeback in Major League Baseball history.
They couldn't stay hot in the postseason, though, losing a three-game wild-card series to Detroit 2-1..
