Before Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets made a couple of bullpen roster moves.

New York selected the contract of left-handed reliever Richard Lovelady. In 16 games for Triple-A affiliate Syracuse Mets, the Lovelady tossed 17 ⅓ innings of 2.08 ERA baseball.

Lovelady has played in six games for the Mets in 2025 but struggled to maintain his position on the major league roster. In 6 ⅔ innings, he allowed eight hits and six runs. His last game was on July 10 against the Baltimore Orioles.

The 30-year-old signed with New York back in June, after the Minnesota Twins released him before he made a major league appearance. Lovelady did play in two games for the Toronto Blue Jays this season, allowing four runs in 1 ⅔ innings.

His addition to the Mets’ bullpen comes as the team clings to the final Wild Card spot in the National League. To make room for Lovelady’s selection, the team has designated right-handed reliever Wander Suero for assignment.

The Mets claimed Suero at the beginning of September after the 34-year-old was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves. With the Braves, Suero pitched 6 ⅓ innings while posting an ERA of 11.37.

In two games with Syracuse after being claimed, Suero impressed. The righty tossed two innings, allowing one hit and striking out five batters in the short sample size. Now, Suero has been delegated for assignment once again.

The Mets take on the Nationals again on Saturday for the second of three games against the NL East rival. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. EST at Citi Field.
