The Philadelphia Phillies' top trade candidate isn't exactly encouraging.

The Philadelphia Phillies were just bounced out of the playoffs in disappointing fashion yet again, and now, they must take a long, hard look at their roster to evaluate things moving forward.

The Phillies have multiple key free agents they have to worry about re-signing, and they also could be fairly active on the trade market.

But as far as Philadelphia's top trade chip heading into the offseason? Well, that's actually fairly depressing given what the initial expectations were.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has named third baseman Alec Bohm among the most likely trade pieces in all of baseball, which should not come as much of a surprise given how underwhelming the former top prospect has been.

"He has not developed into the middle-of-the-order power threat the team was expecting when he was taken No. 3 overall in the 2018 draft, but he has logged an OPS+ north of 100 in each of the past four seasons and could be a solid change of scenery candidate with no commitment beyond 2026," Reuter wrote.

Bohm slashed .283/.331/.409 with 11 home runs and 59 RBI over 504 plate appearances, with his .741 OPS marking his worst output since 2022. Bohm is also not very good defensively, so his rather pedestrian bat makes him a very expendable player in Philly.

Now 29 years old, Bohm likely is what he is at this point. He owns a lifetime .279/.328/.415 slash line, so his 2025 numbers were in lockstep with his career numbers. He has also slugged 20 homers just once since becoming a full-time player in 2022.

In spite of all that, Bohm should certainly draw some interest from teams seeking an offensive upgrade, even if the righty is not exactly Kyle Schwarber at the dish.

How much should the Phillies expect to get in return for Bohm, though? Probably not a whole lot given his struggles defensively. Still, at least it would be something, and his departure would open up Philadelphia to pursue someone like Alec Bregman in free agency.

The Phillies shopped Bohm last winter, so it would not be the least bit shocking to see them gauge the market for him again in the coming weeks and months.
