With an important offseason here, the Philadelphia Phillies have many questions to answer.

On paper, this should still be an above-average team moving forward, but the Phillies aren't as talented as they once were. If they were, the postseason struggles and lineup issues wouldn't be a problem like they've been over the past three years now.

There aren't many ways to fix all of the Phillies' problems, but it's obvious that the lineup needs some more juice.

Especially with Bryce Harper struggling a year ago, for his sake, the Phillies could look to go out and get another bat who can bring some pop to the lineup.

With one player in particular, Pete Alonso, it doesn't sound like he's a feasible option.

According to Dave Dombrowski, he views Harper as the long-term first baseman, something that Harper has been on record stating he isn't exactly a fan of.

“Bryce is a first baseman," Dombrowski said, per Phillies Nation. "He’s a really good first baseman and for us that’s the position we look at him playing for us.”

It isn't that Harper doesn't want to play first base, but he believes that if the Phillies can find a first baseman to come in and be a big addition to this lineup, he's more than willing to go back to the outfield.

“I talked to (the Phillies) this offseason about that, just in case a guy was available (at first) that we needed to have, needed to get,” Harper said. “I’d be more than open to it if we had a guy like that, who was going to change our lineup or change the demeanor of our team. They like me at first base. But I’d go out there to have a guy who was going to play first base and hit 35 or 40 homers.

Alonso is obviously the top first baseman available this winter, but there's also the argument that if the Phillies put Harper back in the outfield, despite Dobrowski’s comments, it'd allow them to find different trade options.

They'd be able to get much more creative than they currently can.
