Could the Pittsburgh Pirates land this two-time All-Star this MLB offseason?

The Pittsburgh Pirates remain one of the worst teams in baseball, and the most glaring reason for their lack of success in recent years is their anemic offense.

The Pirates rank last in baseball in home runs, runs scored and OPS. Not a single one of their players even has 20 homers on the year, with Oneil Cruz pacing the club at 19. Only two other Pittsburgh players are even in double figures in that category.

The question is, will the Pirates actually spend the money this offseason to address what is obviously such a crushing issue?

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter is actually expecting Pittsburgh to open up its wallet this winter, and in predicting the Pirates' lineup for 2026, he actually has them landing Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia on the open market.

A two-time All-Star, Garcia's production has slipped tremendously since last season, which could make him a surprisingly affordable option in free agency. He is slashing just .235/.277/.408 with 18 home runs and 73 RBI over 513 plate appearances in 2025, currently owning an identical OPS to the one he posted last year: .684.

However, there was a time when the 32-year-old was actually one of the top outfielders in the game, and it wasn't that long ago, either. Garcia smashed 39 long balls to go along with 107 RBI as recently as 2023, logging an .836 OPS while also capturing a Gold Glove award that season, which ended in a World Series title for the Rangers. He made the All-Star team and even received some light AL MVP consideration.

Back in 2021, Garcia tallied 31 dingers and 90 RBI, earning an All-Star appearance and finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting.

Yes, the Cuban native is a bit older now. He will actually be 33 by the start of next season. But he would still represent an upgrade and potentially a terrific bang-for-your-buck signing by the Pirates, who currently rank 23rd in the majors in payroll.

Pittsburgh is in dire need of offensive assistance, and while Garcia may no longer be an All-Star caliber player, there is a chance he could at least see a resurgence based on the fact that he was elite just two years ago.
