It's been horrible for Texas Rangers fans to see Evan Carter deal with injury after injury. He's shown that he has the ability to connect at the plate and play pretty well in the field. But Carter just cannot stay healthy, a storyline that's becoming more of the status quo.

"Obviously, anytime an injury [happens, it] sucks, but I guess it's a little bit different [than last year]," Carter told Rangers reporter Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. "This is the first time I've ever had a broken bone before. Getting hit by a pitch is a little bit different than just a wear-and-tear back injury. I can't really control getting hit by an up-and-in fastball."

Carter took a sinker off his right wrist when playing against the Kansas City Royals on Aug. 21. The HPB broke his wrist and sent him off for the rest of this season.

Earlier this season, he dealt with a quad strain and back spasms which sent him to the Injured List both times. The broken right wrist landed him on the 60-Day Injured List and made him an interested observer from the dugout.

He was a second-round pick for the Rangers in the 2020 MLB Draft. Things were looking up at that time, but he's only played 402 MLB games. This season, Carter started it at Triple-A Round Rock before moving back up to the big club.

Despite the injury woes, Carter holds out high hopes for his MLB career.

"As far as development goes, at the end of the day I was really happy with how I was playing this year," Carter said. "I know the more that I play, the better I'm gonna get. If what I contributed this year is something that I can build off of next year, I'm going to be super happy with that."

Carter will be watching on Sunday as the Rangers look to win their weekend series against the American League West Division-leading Houston Astros at Globe Life Field.

Texas will send Patrick Corbin to the mound against Astros ace Framber Valdez. The Rangers won the Friday night opener 4-3 in 12 innings, but were blown out 11-0 on Saturday night.
