Trevor Story could have opted out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox this week, but he's enjoyed his time in New England. Se he told the Red Sox he was staying, and will play the next two years with the Red Sox.

Here's the story from Red Sox Roundtable reporter Tom Carroll.

Trevor Story Reportedly Opting In to Final Two Years of Red Sox Contract Trevor Story Reportedly Opting In to Final Two Years of Red Sox Contract The 32-year-old shortstop will be back in Boston in 2026 and 2027.

Story, who turns 33 next week, has been with the Red Sox since 2022, when he signed a big six-year, $140 million contract. But this was the first year out of four where he's stayed healthy. This season he played in 157 games and hit .263 with 25 home runs and 96 RBIs.

It was a rapid departure from his first three years, when he played only 94, 43 and 26 games respectively. He had an opt-out, but is thrilled to be staying in Boston. He will play out the final two years with $55 million left on his deal.

“We’re a very tight-knit crew,” Story said near the end of the season. “I’ve said that all year. It’s just fun coming to work with these guys, man. They love it just as much as I do. And it’s a special thing to find, getting back to feeling like myself, like I’m going to do something special each night.

“It’s been a while since I felt that, so to feel that consistently over four or five months meant a lot to me. But it’s more about the teammates, more about our coaches and our guys here that you get to share the grind with because they become family.”

The Red Sox finished 89-73 last year, good for third place in the American League East. They lost their wild-card series 2-1 to their arch-rivals, the New York Yankees.
