There is no way the New York Yankees would make this trade, right?

The New York Yankees could lose Cody Bellinger this offseason. There really is no way around it. Bellinger is likely to receive some lucrative long-term offers in free agency, and you have to wonder how far the Yankees will be willing to go to retain him.

In the event that New York sees Bellinger walk, what will it do in the outfield? Well, Jim Riley of BALLCAP Sports has proposed a trade in which the Yankees would land Nick Castellanos from the Philadelphia Phillies, suggesting that the Phillies could eat $10 million of the last $20 million remaining on Castellanos' contract in 2026.

To be quite blunt, there is no chance the Yanks make this trade. Like, zero.

Castellanos is an absolutely miserable defensive outfielder and always has been. The catch was that his bat was good enough to mitigate his poor glove early in his career. That's not the case anymore, as Castellanos owns a .699 OPS this season and has not posted an OPS of .800 or better since 2021.

Now 33 years old, Castellanos is not going to get better. He is obviously declining, and his downturn is only going to continue. It's not like he lacks protection in Philadelphia's lineup, either. He just isn't hitting, and we know he can't play the field.

As for potentially putting him at designated hitter? The Yankees have Giancarlo Stanton for that. They don't need Castellanos in any way, shape or form.

Should New York lose Bellinger over the winter, it will likely just call up top prospect Spencer Jones for 2026. It may also be more inclined to re-sign Trent Grisham, which would allow the Yankees to work with a combination of Jones, Grisham, Jasson Dominguez and Aaron Judge in the outfield.

Of course, New York could also make another addition, but if it does, it is certainly not going to be Castellanos, who would have Yankees fans pulling their hair out.

So, yeah: the Yanks are absolutely, positively not going to express any interest in a trade for Castellanos. Not in 2025. The Phillies are going to have a very difficult time finding any takers for Castellanos regardless of how much of his salary they eat.
