The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors both lost in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games.
The Cavaliers fell to the Indiana Pacers, while the Warriors were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Golden State hasn't made any moves this offseason because of Jonathan Kuminga's restricted free agency. Meanwhile, Cleveland has been busy, trading Isaac Okoro to the Chicago Bulls for Lonzo Ball, re-signing Sam Merrill and signing Larry Nance Jr.
With the 2025-26 season right around the corner, one NBA writer believes the Cavaliers and Warriors should make a trade with each other.
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Cavaliers and Warriors:
Cleveland Cavaliers receive: Trayce Jackson-Davis and a 2026 first-round pick (lottery-protected)
Golden State Warriors receive: Jaylon Tyson
For the Warriors last season, Jackson-Davis appeared in 62 games. He averaged 6.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.6 blocks while shooting 57.6% from the field and 57.8% from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, Tyson averaged 3.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.1 blocks for the Cavaliers in 47 games. He shot 43.0% overall, 34.5% from 3 and 79.2% from the foul line.
Jackson-Davis will make $2.2 million next season, while Tyson will make $3.5 million. Neither player has a no-trade clause.
Until Kuminga's restricted free agency gets solved, the Warriors can't sign any players. However, they can make a trade and Buckley thinks the trade idea he came up with benefits both Golden State and Cleveland.
The Cavaliers haven't advanced past the second round of the playoffs since LeBron James left for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018.
Meanwhile, the Warriors -- who have won four championships in the Stephen Curry era -- have struggled since winning the 2022 title. They lost to James and the Lakers in the second round of the 2023 playoffs, missed the playoffs in 2024 and, as mentioned above, fell to the Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs.
