LA Clippers guard James Harden made Clippers franchise history in a 55-point performance against the Charlotte Hornets

The LA Clippers desperately needed a win against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday afternoon, and James Harden delivered.

Both the Clippers and Hornets had an overall record of 4-11 entering the game, but after Harden's historic performance, it was LA who finished the day with a 5-11 record.

On Saturday afternoon, Harden put up 55 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds on 65/63/79 shooting from the field. He did it all with only two turnovers as well. Harden's 55 points were the most points scored in the Clippers franchise history during an individual game, something he accomplished at 36 years old.

    Harden's Reaction to Making History

One thing Harden is known for making is very humble and cool remarks after big performances. It was no different on Saturday afternoon. When initially asked about his performance, Harden had a simple statement.

    "I'm happy we won."

Harden was then followed up numerous times about the performance, to which he gave a bit more specific of an answer.

"Man, just the work that I put in individually, I do it for the entire team. Just trying to find ways to win games... it's going to be every single night," Harden said.

Harden then finally finished his postgame interview with another simple, yet passionate statement.

    "Basketball is life."

Who Else Stepped Up for the Clippers?

For as amazing as Harden was on Saturday, the Clippers had numerous key contributors against the Hornets.

Ivica Zubac put up 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists on 75% shooting from the field. John Collins put up 10 points and 7 rebounds on 40% shooting from the field. Cam Christie put up 8 points and 9 rebounds off the bench, and Chris Paul put up 3 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds off the bench. The bench did a decent job of keeping the lead in double digits as Harden sat out to rest during the fourth quarter.

Collectively, the Clippers put up a very impressive 30 assists with only 8 turnovers. Surprisingly, they also outrebounded the Hornets 41-38 in the matchup as well.

The one part of the performance that might not be replicated again, though, was the fact that the Clippers shot 19/43 from three, which is 44.2%. It's tough to see the Clippers shoot that well from deep against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, but if they do, they'll have a shot of winning that game as well.
