When Victor Wembanyama was drafted first overall by the San Antonio Spurs in 2023, he was thrilled to be joining a historic organization with five NBA championships.

He knows their greatness, and has been looking forward to add to that legacy since its been 11 years since they won an NBA title.

Wembanyama is off to a hot start this season, and he's got the Spurs making history. They beat the Miami Heat 107-101 at home on Thursday night, beginning the season with a perfect 5-0 record.

Amazingly, that's never been done before in the storied 50-year history of the Spurs franchise.

"It feels great," Wembanyama told reporters after the game. "It's not random. We didn't get those five wins randomly. We worked for it. We started this season strong, and we need to keep that streak going for as long as possible."

The Heat, who had won three in a row before Thursday, had no answer for Wembanyama, who had 27 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and five blocks. Here's the complete game story from Heat Roundtable reporter Anthony Aguirre.
