The veteran knows what the Charlotte Hornets must do to shock the world.

Everyone who covers or watches the NBA expects the Charlotte Hornets to miss the playoffs this season.

The Hornets haven't made the playoffs since 2016 and the last time they had a winning record was during the 2021-22 season.

For Charlotte to defy the odds, the team has to win games together and not rely on one player.

That's at least what newcomer Collin Sexton thinks.

The Hornets acquired Sexton from the Utah Jazz in the offseason. The guard averaged 18.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season while shooting 48.0% from the field, 40.6% from beyond the arc and 86.5% from the free-throw line.

Charlotte won only 19 games last season. For the team to compete for a play-in or playoff spot this season, Sexton has to be a scoring machine off the bench and starters LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges have to stay healthy and put up All-Star numbers.

Sexton has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Jazz. He has career averages of 18.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. The 26-year-old has never been to the playoffs, something he presumably wants to change this season.

Sexton was the eighth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Alabama. He averaged a career-high 24.3 points during the 2020-21 season with the Cavaliers.

Ball and Miller, the Hornets' two best players, proved last season they can be a dynamic duo. Ball averaged 30.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 7.6 assists next to Miller, who averaged 19.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists alongside LaMelo.
