Should the Charlotte Hornets do this deal?

An NBA trade idea between the Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons has been created.

Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Hornets trade Miles Bridges to the Pistons for Tobias Harris and a lottery-protected 2031 first-round pick.

"The Charlotte Hornets are another team that isn't likely to push for a postseason berth any time soon, so they could pursue the same goal as Brooklyn: Turn a vet into a future pick," Bailey wrote. "In this case, Charlotte also gets the added benefit of picking up an expiring contract that won't encumber the team's books beyond this season.

"The Detroit Pistons, meanwhile, get a little more explosive offensive option at the 4 who can play some two-man game with Cade Cunningham."

Bridges appeared in 64 games for the Hornets last season. He averaged 20.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 43.1% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc and 87.0% from the free-throw line.

The 27-year-old Bridges has spent his entire NBA career with the Hornets. He has career averages of 15.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists with Charlotte. The swingman has never made the playoffs.

The Hornets haven't made the playoffs since 2016, while the Pistons made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2019. They lost to the New York Knicks in the first round in six games.

Bridges will make $25 million this season and $22.8 million next season in the final year of his contract. The Hornets signed the Michigan State product to a three-year, $75 million contract in 2024.

The Hornets are 166-258 when Bridges plays. Bridges missed the entire 2022-23 season for his role in a domestic violence case in 2022.

Harris played in 73 games for the Pistons last season. He averaged 13.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 47.7% from the field, 34.5% from 3 and 86.1% from the free-throw line. The New York native will make $26.6 million this season in the final year of his contract.
