The New York Knicks couldn't have asked for a better start to the 2025-26 season, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics to defend their home court and start 2-0 on the year before beginning a three-game road trip. However, that road trip did not go to plan.
The Knicks would go on to drop three straight games, including their most recent being a 135-125 loss to the Chicago Bulls in the first game of their NBA Cup Group Play. Now, they'll turn and head back to Madison Square Garden, where a rematch with the Bulls awaits them on Sunday.
For the Knicks on Sunday, the only player listed on their injury report is Mitchell Robinson, as the center made his season debut against the Bulls, but is now listed as QUESTIONABLE with a left ankle injury. Robinson had four points, 11 rebounds, and two assists in his first game of the 2025-26 season, but could be sidelined for the rematch with the undefeated Bulls.
With limited center depth behind Karl-Anthony Towns, New York needs Robinson in order for this team to be complete and avoid having the defensive drawbacks of Towns being on display. While not much of an offensive threat, Robinson provides immense value to the Knicks with his rebounding and defense for New York.
As for the Bulls, there are far more names, with Zach Collins (scaphoid), Noa Essengue (G-League), and Coby White (calf) all listed as OUT for the Bulls. White has yet to make his season debut for the Bulls, as the team's leading scorer from last season will surely improve an already good offense once he's able to get back on the court.
For the statuses in question, guard Ayo Dosumnu, who's played stellar so far this season, is listed as QUESTIONABLE with a left quad contusion. Forward Julian Phillips is also on the injury report, but is listed as PROBABLE with left lower back tightness.
After dropping all three of their road games this season, Sunday is an opportunity for the Knicks to get back in control of their season and avoid a four-game skid. A team that was just two wins away from the NBA Finals last season, it's clear with Jalen Brunson and Towns leading the way that New York can very well make a run in the East without the Celtics and Pacers as threats.
Tip-off at Madison Square Garden on Sunday is set for 7:00 p.m. EST.
