The Orlando Magic have been underwhelming from the perimeter and may need to trade for additional help.

After a big win against the New York Knicks on Wednesday night, the Orlando Magic may be finding their stride. Desmond Bane is looking more comfortable in the lineup after nailing a game winner on Monday and notching 22 points in Madison Square Garden. However, there is still room for improvement on the roster.

According to Bleacher Report, the Magic should trade for Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk.

“Orlando spent heavily this offseason on offensive improvements,” it wrote. “There's clearly more work to be done. The Magic rank just 19th in offensive efficiency and remain bottom-third in both three-point makes and percentage.”

According to the outlet, Orlando should part with Jonathan Isaac, Jett Howard, and two future second-round draft picks to facilitate the trade.

“While they can't really afford another big splurge, a discounted deal for Monk might work. He's streaky and overpaid a bit, but he could get hot enough to tilt a playoff outcome or two.”

“Assuming there isn't just something in the Orlando water behind all of this brick-laying—Desmond Bane and Tyus Jones can't shoot now?—Monk could help open things up for this oft-congested offense.”

Monk, 27, is a career 35 percent 3-point shooter. Last season was a down year for the veteran, as he connected on just 32.5 percent of his perimeter shots; the second-lowest mark of his nine-year career.

However, Monk is off to a strong start in the early going of the 2025-26 season. Through nine games, he is converting 47.6 percent of his 3-point attempts while averaging 2.2-4.7 per contest. It is a small sample size, but it illustrates what Monk is capable of.

Jonathan Isaac has been with the Magic for eight seasons but is only now suiting up for his seventh due to tearing his ACL in 2020. Isaac is a reserve big who can hit perimeter shots, though his numbers last season were abysmal in 71 appearances (25.8 3PT%) and this year is looking worse (18.8 percent through 11 games).

After having his fourth-year rookie club option declined last month, Howard’s future in Orlando is reaching its end. He is still on the roster for now and even played a season-high 19 minutes in the win over Portland, but he has been buried in the rotation and is clearly not sticking around much longer.

Packaging Howard and Isaac for Monk could provide Orlando with more perimeter support, but the issue of cost may arise. Monk is owed nearly $19 million this season and $20 million next season. He also has a player option 2027-28 worth $21.5 million, according to Spotrac.

Orlando is already flirting with the second apron with its current payroll, but moving off Isaac’s contract could clear the way to justify acquiring Monk.
