Rookie Cooper Flagg fuels Mavericks' comeback, achieving another double-double amid adversity and surpassing NBA rookie milestones.

DALLAS — Cooper Flagg continues to live up to the hype surrounding his arrival in Dallas. The Mavericks’ top overall pick posted another standout performance Wednesday night, recording 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and a block in a 107-105 win over the Indiana Pacers.

The performance marked Flagg’s second double-double in just five career games, joining Popeye Jones (1993-94) as the only Mavericks rookies to reach that mark so quickly. He also became the first rookie in the NBA this season with multiple double-doubles.

Flagg, who has averaged 13.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists to begin his career, displayed composure beyond his years as Dallas navigated another night of roster adversity. Anthony Davis exited in the first quarter with lower left leg soreness, forcing Flagg to shoulder a heavier load in the frontcourt.

“When a great player like AD goes down, we just have to stay consistent,” Flagg said. “The team’s obviously down a man, but it’s about sticking to the game plan and being ready to step up. PJ [Washington] played some five, DP [Dwight Powell] came in huge for us—he’s just so consistent. It was about staying locked in.”

The 19-year-old helped the Mavericks rally from a 14-point deficit with a poised third-quarter stretch that shifted momentum. Flagg scored seven points in less than three minutes, knocking down mid-range jumpers, finishing in transition, and finding teammates for open looks.

“Just staying consistent,” Flagg said of his mindset. “Not getting anxious or worrying about scoring—just making the right play. I found Kleb late, made a couple of passes, got guys easy shots. When we play the right way, sometimes that means scoring, sometimes facilitating. It’s about staying poised.”

Flagg also embraced the physicality of the game, battling for rebounds against Indiana’s veteran frontcourt. His presence helped stabilize Dallas defensively during key stretches when the Pacers tried to regain control.

Powell, who finished with 18 points and six rebounds, praised the rookie’s focus and drive.

“Cooper’s a competitor by blood,” Powell said. “He loves the game and works extremely hard. Someone with his skill set and mentality at his age—the sky’s the limit.”

For Flagg, the early success is as much about learning as producing.

“It’s an adjustment—the game’s just so different,” he said. “It’s about learning and adapting, finding ways to impact the game in different spots. At the end of the day, I’m the same player, so I just have to continue being myself.”

With Dallas improving to 2-3, Flagg has quickly become a steadying presence amid the Mavericks’ early injury woes. His blend of skill, maturity, and competitive fire has already earned the respect of teammates and fans alike.

“The fans have been amazing for us through these first five home games,” Flagg said. “We just have to keep giving them things to cheer for.”

The Mavericks will look for more of the same from their 19-year-old cornerstone when they face the Detroit Pistons on Saturday in Mexico City — their first road game of the season.
